First and foremost, Abingdon is a Wine estate that sells food, not a restaurant that sells wine. The food is great, BUT the wine is exceptional. Sold by the bottle or per glass, if you enjoy fine wines, a visit to Abingdon Wine Estate is a MUST.
A unique estate which has positioned itself as a serious single vineyard boutique wine producer in KZN. Abingdon was the first farm in KZN to produce a certified estate wine with their maiden vintage in 2007. The farm was bought in 2000 by owners, Ian & Jane Smorthwaite, and the first vines were planted in 2004. Situated at 1140m above sea level, the Estate has 4ha under vine and produces certified single vineyard Estate wines from 100% Abingdon grapes.
Voted South Africa’s Best Kept Secret in the 2019 Amex Dining Awards, the Abingdon menu is fresh, offering harvest boards and tapas style dishes to accompany your wine. The food is delicious, fresh and authentic and compliments the wines on offer. The venue has an incredible atmosphere, exquisite wine, laid back pace and simplistic indulgence.
You can choose to sit inside on cooler days, but on beautiful summer days, sitting outside, overlooking the vineyards, really makes this an experience to remember.
